Where to Start?

Trawl the internet

Start by trawling the internet. Some suggestions are outlined below but remember Google (other search engines are available) is a wonderful thing and will pull up everything you ever wanted to know and more.

Contact your Local Authority

Most Local Authorities have an ‘External Funding Team’ or ‘Programmes Unit,’ usually based in Econopmic Devlopment, Regneration or Chief Executive’s departments. These teams coordinate and control a lot of the public funding in their area and often act as the gateway to large amounts of funding for regeneration projects which can include restoration, conversion and improvements to historic buildings. Very often they can provide help and advice on developing your project and accessing funding and will have a lot of indepth local knowledge which can prove invaluable in finding your way through the maze

Contact your local Council for Voluntary Service

For Voluntary and Community Groups your Local Council for Voluntary Service or Voluntary Action Organisatyion can help you with most things you’ll need to do from setting up your oganisation to sorting out legal and employment issues to developing your project application, conducting funding searches and filling in funding applications. You can find your local orgainsation through Google, or the NACVA website.
