Going Green in Yorkshire and the Humber is the title of this year's CIH Annual Conference.
This conference has been organised to examine housing issues around sustainability, affordability and protecting the environment and is aimed at housing professionals and anyone who has a keen interest in these issues.
The CIH Yorkshire and Humberside Conference is a regional housing event, attracting organisations from across the region and beyond. This year’s conference will address the fundamental and related questions of sustainability and protecting the environment, but at the same time still providing affordable housing. We face significant challenges – creating a sustainable environment, producing more high quality housing, and building safe, prosperous, cohesive communities, while making effective use of our resources all at the same time.
Through a selection of keynote sessions and master classes, the conference aims to give you the chance to hear from housing professionals, as well as share best practice examples of how you can create a better, brighter and greener community for your tenants and also within your organisation. As well as disseminate up to the minute research, promote discussion and personally motivate you this year’s conference will provide some great opportunities for networking with colleagues and learning about the latest trends and issues in the Yorkshire & Humberside region.
The day will start will a lively debate, chaired by Ceri Lewis, chair of the Yorkshire and Humberside Region which will include a background of housing and the green environment, fuel poverty and climate change issues. Abi Davies, Head of Policy, at the Chartered Institute of Housing will join the debate and give a presentation looking at those issues on a national level, we will then hear from Kevin Dodd, Chief Executive of Wakefield & District Housing on the regional housing issues within the Yorkshire and Humber. It will then be your chance to join the debate and quiz the panel with your questions or share your experiences The day concludes with a session from Dick Strawbridge, who appeared on ‘It's Not Easy Being Green’ series, who will be sharing his experiences with us. He is currently living on Newhouse Farm working on different eco projects, such as solar panels, wind turbines, ram pump, geodesic dome and permaculture plot, many of which were featured on the BBC2 series.
The master classes will include sessions on Mainstreaming Code 6 – lessons learnt so far!, Warm home standards, retro fitting - experience to date and Community energy solutions – involving your tenants. The master classes will be interactive and will give you the opportunity to share best practice and keep up to date with the latest tactics in your field.
